Wii U Basic will continue to be available at retail, says Nintendo of America

Nintendo of America has said it will continues to offer Wii U Basic at retail, and it is not being recalled.

According to the firm's senior director of Corporate Communications, Charlie Scibetta, the news that GameStop was to have all its stock of the 8GB model pulled by June 18 was interpreted incorrectly.

"There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware," he told Polygon. "To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply re-balance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market.

"Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available."

The rumor this morning cited an anonymous source, while Nintendo UK said it had no plans to pull the sku from UK retailers.
