ITC says Xbox 360 doesn't violate Motorola patent 

A six-person committee formed by the International Trade Commission has ruled that Xbox 360 doesn't violate a patent owned by Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility.

Back in March, US trade judge David Shaw said in a note posted to the ITC website that the patent, which pertains to wireless network connections, wasn't being violated by Xbox 360 technology. His recommendation went before the ITC committe, and Microsoft prevailed.

"This is a win for Xbox customers and confirms our view that Google had no grounds to block our products," David Howard, a Microsoft deputy general counsel, said in a statement to Reuters.

A Motorola spokesperson said it was "disappointed with this decision" and that it will be evaluating its options.

A dispute over the patent has been going on between the two firms since 2010 – in both Europe and the US. Back in January, Motorola dropped two of its patent infringement suits against Microsoft regarding video-coding and connectivity tech within the console, but apparently not the wireless patent.

The case originally involved five patent claims.
