Wii U US sales down 19% month-on-month, says Pachter

A new report from industry analyst Michael Pachter suggests sales of both Nintendo home consoles declined over the last month, although the 3DS is on the up.

Pachter estimates that 55,000 Wii U consoles were sold in the US in April, a 19% drop on March's figures. The Wii, more predictably, is also believed to have declined, down 19% on April 2012 to 75,000 units - quite a lot more than its successor.

Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 showed stronger results, Pachter said, with the Xbox 360 managing 205,000 units sold, a 13% decline year-on-year, and the PS3 producing 165,000 sales, a 5% drop.

The 3DS, on the other hand, is going strong, with 185,000 sales, a 46% increase year-on-year.

The Vita is down 57% year-on-year, the analyst said, with just 30,000 sales. Sony has hinted that the handheld's fortunes may soon change.

The Wedbush report arrives ahead of the NPD Group's retail figures, which are expected this week.
