Gears of War movie nets Battleship producer

Battleship, Ted and Safe House producer Scott Stuber has signed on to the Gears of War movie project.

Variety reports Stuber will produce and also begin to develop a script in collaboration with Epic Games.

There are no actors, writers or companies attached to the project, but Stuber has a first look deal with Universal. Both the producer and Epic will shop the project around to studios.

Gears of War first turned up in Hollywood as early as 2007, but New Line Cinema and Epic couldn't agree on a treatment and the deal fell through. This is the first sign of life the project has shown since vaguely rousing from its slumber in October 2012. Video game movies; they're certainly a thing, aren't they.
