Star Citizen has now attracted $9 million in crowd funding

Holy moly, Star Citizen just won't quit.

Roberts Space Industries keeps a running total of how much cash has been pledged to the project through its now-closed Kickstarter and private crowd-funding campaigns, as well as ongoing pre-orders and subscriptions. That tally today clicked over into $9 million, all coughed up by customers more than 18 months before launch.

The number alone is astounding, but what's even more impressive is that it only hit $8 million in mid-February, so it's brought in $1 million in about ten weeks. No wonder Cloud Imperium Games opened a second studio.

The old school space sim has been in the works for over a year and is expected on PC in late 2014, possible with Oculus Rift support. After making noises about how it wouldn't run on consoles, Chris Roberts said recently he'd think about bringing it to the PC-like PlayStation 4.

Thanks, Gamespot.
