Anno Online now in closed beta

Blue Byte's free-to-play, browser-based take on Anno 1404 has gone into closed beta; sign up now to check out Anno Online.

The closed beta kicked off today for English-speakers.

Anno Online offers players a persistent world, and tasks them with bringing an island to life. Based on Anno 1404, it boasts over 1,000 buildings plus decorative items, and has an emphasis on trade by sea with other players. You start with a harbour, warehouse and an otherwise empty island but the whole world is at your disposal should you assemble a large enough flotilla.

A guild system with private chat channel, set to debut in the beta in May, allows you to co-operate with up to 25 members to conquer new territory.

Ubisoft boasts that its graphics are up to par with the franchise to date despite being browser-based. Go forth and sign up to test this claim for yourself, or check out the new trailer below.
