Oculus Rift goes deep sea diving in UnderCurrent

Here’s a very clever Oculus Rift project from a group of UK students; rather than just adapt the VR tech to an existing genre, UnderCurrent uses it in a way that seems to capitalise on its strengths, by letting you explore a space most of us will never get the chance to see in real life.

As detailed on the Oculus Rift forums, the submarine exploration experience is the work of 3D artists tinkering with the Unreal Development Kit. Three levels have been completed so far.

You can check out some gameplay footage below – this is all early alpha stuff, of course, as the development team don’t even have their own Rift headset yet – and head to the website for more.

Thanks, Joystiq.
