Hawken technician update detailed, hits Thursday

Hawken's anticipated Technician update goes live on April 18, bringing a new map, mech and achievements system to the free-to-play combat sim.

The new map is called Frontline, a re-skinned version of alpha map Valkyrie. It is large-scale and supports all modes.

The titular mech, Technician, is a close-range repair specialist. Although its healing tool is its main draw, it also boasts a new primary weapon, the Redox-O2, which conveys a debuff which can be stacked three times.

The other major update is a system of voer 300 Service Award achievements, but there are also new weapons, customisations and more.

Meteor is also taking the opportunity to rebalance, and overhaul the UI, allowing more tactical information at a glance. Many non-critical player stats will be reste by the update, unfortunately.

Full patch notes and explanatory materials are available on the Hawken website.

Sam checked out the upcoming Hawken update while he was at GDC, nabbing some video of it in action.
