Minimum is Timegate Studios' latest, goes into alpha next week

Timegate Studios, unfortunately best known of late for its roles as co-developer of Aliens: Colonial Marines, has a new free-to-play shooter on the go.

The Section 8 developer has some decent shooting chops to boast of, which should give you hope for Minimum, announced via a new website.

Timegate said that the game began as "a beautiful artistic vision" before growing into a "a different type" of shooter. It features a five-tiered powerup system which increases weapon power as matches wear on; unique weapons like an exploding ice-sniper and burning dual-wield katanas, each with alt-fire modes; and signature mode Titan, which has players battling around and for two colossal creatures.

It's also got a really interesting aesthetic, and Timegate is promising to somehow allow players to influence how the game develops.

"Influence: Our promise to you. MINIMUM was built on the ideas and input of a collective team, and we believe that the input of our players is the best way to drive where we go from here. Stay tuned in the upcoming months for more details on how you can Influence MINIMUM’s future," the developer said.

"The best way for MINIMUM to realize its potential, we believe, is to bring you – the players, the fans – to the development table with us. This is our promise to you. We believe in MINIMUM, and want your Influence, your ideas and your creativity to steer us. Not only will we listen, as every other developer promises to do, but we are also creating a mechanism to empower you, just as our entire team is empowered. The fun, the heart of MINIMUM is no longer just ours, and we can’t wait to see where we collectively go from here."

Minimum is expected to go into closed alpha testing on April 16, via Steam's Early Access channel. For PC requirements and more information, check out the FAQ.
