American McGee and the Spicy Horse team are ready to make another Alice game, if EA is interested.

Speaking to Joystiq at GDC, McGee and collaborator RJ Berg said the new project won’t be a triple-A release like the last two games. Instead, Spicy Horse wants to Kickstart an online, co-operative title with user-generated content and cross-platform play – all EA has to do is license the rights to Spicy Horse.

The new game would have Alice wandering the street of London, caught up in the mental worlds of thsoe she passes by.

“Right now the idea is Alice in ‘Otherland.’ It’s her invading the minds of other people and visiting their Wonderlands, and using what she’s learned about her own mental landscape to go in and harm or heal the people she encounters,” McGee said.

“It means that the streets of London become the portals into 1,000, 10,000 amazing, different stories.”

That’s assuming EA, which holds the rights, agrees to let the developer do it.

“The burden is really on them. It always is. Hopefully we can be charming enough,” McGee said.

Berg said EA probably isn’t interested in another triple-A Alice title, so Spicy Horse has to convince it to give over the rights by presenting something very different.

“We have to construct a very strong idea of how that presentation might run, but it’s up to them to pick up on the opportunity,” he said.

Spicy Horse began gauging player interest in the possibility of a Kickstarter-funded Alice sequel recently, the results of which will probably be used in the pitch.
