Team Fortress 2 to add Oculus Rift support this week

Team Fortress 2 will add a "VR mode" this week, compatible with the Oculus Rift headset.

The update was confirmed via the Oculus Rift Kickstarter page, and followed by a feature article on Engadget.

The new mode will be available this week, and will be accompanied by a new hat shaped like the headset; it will be free to all backers.

Oculus Rift thanked Valve for its generosity in producing the update, which will allow devkit owners to begin playing together immediately. Valve's Joe Ludwig said Oculus Rift and Valve's VR team work together quite casually.

"We're friends. They help us out with hardware and we help them out with software," he said.

"Team Fortress was sort of the obvious choice for this. The Team Fortress community is large and healthy. There are millions of people playing TF every week, but they're also used to us shipping a lot of updates."

PCGamesN went hands-on with the VR update, and has some interesting observations about; it sounds pretty sweet.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
