Thatgamecompany boss not ready for Kickstarter

Thatgamecompany founder Jenova Chen has said he hasn't been in the industry long enough to look to crowd-funding for support.

"I think most of the very successful Kickstarters are by veteran celebrity developers who made these games people in their 30s and 40s used to love," Chen told GamesIndustry.

"They're the people who have loads of money to donate. And I'm thinking that most of the people who played our games are teenagers and college students. How much money are they going to have to donate? So I think it's not my time yet."

After the success of Journey and the critical acclaim for his previous games, you'd expect Chen would have no trouble finding a publisher, but the developer recently revealed that thatgamecompany went bankrupt making Journey, and is yet to see any revenue from the best-selling project. He has vowed to prove that the kinds of games he wants to make can be commercially successful, and is flirting with mobile and especially touch interfaces.
