The Witcher 3's story explained by CDP writers

CD Projekt RED has relayed information on The Witcher 3's storyline to Game Informer. We wont tell you too much of what we heard, in case you have not played The Witcher 2. Let's just say Geralt is "looking for someone who has been missing in The Witcher 1 and 2," and "the war" is still ongoing.
