Deadly Premonition has had 'no economic success', confirms creator Swery

Deadly Premonition director Hidetaka Suehiro - also known as Swery65 - spent six years taking his strange cult title from concept to full release, but it has proved to be an economic failure, according to the man himself. Undeterred, he has expressed hope that his incoming Directors' Cut release will bring the game to a new audience, and help fund a sequel.

"So far there's no economic success from this game," Swery told Polygon in a recent interview. "I'm hoping that The Director's Cut will give me another chance at success, and another chance to create a new game or maybe a sequel."

The game is indeed odd, and as the article points out it has received poor-to-glittering reviews, with Destructoid's 10/10 score helping to bring the game to people's attention. Whatever an eventual sequel might look like, it'll still feel like a Swey65 game, he says.

"Sam Raimi is well-known as a horror director, but he also did the Spider-Man movies," he explains. "But everything he does has a Sam Raimi taste. I'm very confident that any games I'm involved in will have the Swery taste."

Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut hits PS3 later this year, and publisher Rising Star Games has releases a batch of rather mediocre screens. Check them out here.
