Xbox Live Arcade marketplace revenues doubled year-on-year in 2012 - report

Xbox Live Arcade's marketplace made twice as much in revenue in 2012 as in 2011, according to a new analyst's report.

Analyst firm Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment claims Xbox live Arcade pulled in $290 million in marketplace revenue in 2012, twice the reported revenue of 2011.

The report suggests the top three games far out-performed their rivals. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was far and away the winner, and apparently made 4,997,000 unit sales - gross revenue of $97.3 million.

Trials Evolution managed 1,002,000 sales for gross revenue of $14.2 million, while The Walking Dead made 2,615,000 sales for gross revenue of $10.2 million.

FADE said sales of other games in the top ten ranged from 200,000 to 300,000, including strong performances from older titles like Castle Crashers and Trials HD.

A full list of 2012's best-selling XBLA releases and most active titles was released last month.
