Warren Spector farewells Junction Point

Junction Point founder Warren Spector has written a heartfelt obituary for the developer, which was confirmed to have been shut down today.

"I’ve had some of the most magical times of my life, fulfilling several life-long dreams. I’ve gotten to know Disney fans and Disney cast members, gotten hands on with Disney’s history, walked where Walt walked. ‘Magical’ really is the only word."

"The Junction Point journey is over. To all those who've asked, or want to ask, I'm sad but excited for the future," Spector said in a public Facebook post. "I honestly don't know what that will be yet, so don't ask."

Spector looked back on Junction Point's eight year lifetime, highlighting the "amazing people" he worked with and their "amazing projects".

"I've had some of the most magical times of my life, fulfilling several life-long dreams. I've gotten to know Disney fans and Disney cast members, gotten hands on with Disney's history, walked where Walt walked," he said. "'Magical' really is the only word."

Spector admitted Junction Point's games "polarized" critics, but said he has nothing but pride in his dedicated, hard-working team, and the way Epic Mickey games touched players on a deep, personal level.

"I said to myself as Junction Point embarked on the Epic Mickey journey that, worst case, we'd be 'a footnote in Disney history.' Looking back on it, I think we did far better than that," he added.

"With Mickey Mouse as our hero, we introduced a mainstream audience to some cool 'core game' concepts, and, most especially, we restored Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to a place of prominence. WE did that. Junction Point."

The developer said he'll always be grateful for Disney for the opportunity, as well as all the Disney and Pixar staff who helped out over the years, but "most especially" the Junction Point team.

Junction Point was founded in 2005 by former Ion Storm members and acquired by Disney Interactive in 2007.

Prior to founding the developer, Spector held roles at the defunct Origin Systems, Looking Glass Studios and Ion Storm. His credits include Wing Commander, Ultima, System Shock, Thief and most famously Deus Ex.

Thanks, Dan.
