Modders create 3-D server lobby for Minecraft

HighlifeTTU and lazertester, Minecraft modders, have created a Central Lobby System. The full 3-D server browser lobby lets you walk around and explore when choosing a server to join, taking the game even closer to becoming a full MMO.

The mod is essentially a Minecraft world itself that allows players to connect to other worlds but also includes a relaxation lounge, zoned-off PVP brawling areas, other players in the halls talking to each other and reading server description as well as swimming pools. The mod helps bring players together intuitively into a bigger community.

It's only available in the U.S. currently but the team plans to take it to Australia and Europe. Screens and directions of how it works can be found here, courtesy of Games.On.Net.

Minecraft sold 15 million downloads in 2012, with 4.2 million of those in December alone.
