Raspberry PI online store opens, free and paid apps available now

Pocket sized computer format Raspberry PI has received its own online store today, full of free and paid games and apps. Check out the software on offer below.

Created by the same minds behind Blitz Game's 'IndieCity' game platform, the Raspberry PI store is accessible via the device's Raspbian OS itself - when plugged into a PC or TV - or via browsers. Users can also tip developers of free apps if they'd rather pay something than get software for nothing.

Eben Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation told Eurogamer, "With the Raspberry Pi finally having a dedicated software store, it's going to bring together the already-thriving Pi community in a way that's simply not been possible before.

“Our driving aim has always been to use Raspberry Pi to encourage and introduce a generation of children to programming and creative computer science. By now enabling Raspberry Pi users of all ages to gain critical and commercial success from their work through the new Pi Store we also believe it will be a powerful incentive for others to get involved and further spread the word.”

The Raspberry PI format was created in conjunction with Frontier Development's David Braben, and is currently the cheapest, smallest new PC on the market, and looks set to offer affordable computing to schools and households. That said, it does require a bit of know-how to run.
