Square Enix issues lay-offs at LA offices, MMOs unaffected

Square Enix has confirmed it has made lay-offs at its Los Angeles offices.

The publisher admitted to staff cuts but did not give numbers or details.

As word of the lay-offs leaked over the weekend, rumour had it that a number of online titles would be affected, but Square Enix public relations director Riley Brennan told Massively that the cuts are not expected to have any knock on effects.

"In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce. This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn," the representative said in a statement.

Best of luck to those staff affected by the redundancies.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is expected to launch in early 2013.
