Former GameStop VP pleads guilty to almost $2 million embezzlement scheme

Former GameStop vice president of corporate communications and public affairs Chris Olivera has pleaded guilty to an embezzlement scheme that granted him almost $2 million from the company.

A federal indictment filed Thursday says that Olivera regularly sent payments to Nevada-based PR agency Cloud Communications, LLC, and its representative Jennifer Miller, from July 2009 to April 2011.

This would be all well and good, except neither Cloud Communications nor Jennifer Miller actually existed. Instead, Olivera reportedly took the checks he wrote out to Cloud and deposited them for himself. GameStop soon became suspicious, brought in federal officials, and the whole scheme was revealed.

Olivera's guilty plea admits to one count of mail fraud, which could bring him up to 20 years in prison as well as a $250,000 fine. Here's the guilty plea in it's entirety (via Dallas Observer).
