Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture to follow Dear Esther

The Chinese Room, the dev behind Dear Esther, has revealed its next game, a CryEngine 3 PC title called Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Studio boss Dan Pinchbeak talked about the title in an interview with Beefjack, confirming it's going to be an open-world first-person non-combat game set in rural Shropshire. It takes place an hour before the world ends.

The game will allow you to play across a large terrain that'll take approximately 20 minutes to travel through diagonally. It'll allow you to play for 60 minutes, and whatever you don't manage to discover during that period of time can be found in subsequent playthroughs.

The game will allow you to interact with the world and your actions will influence the environment, the characters and how they react in the game.

"I think with Esther you generated most of that sense of foreboding pretty much by yourself, and I really wanted a world where you actively feel like something is going on, because it actively is going on," Pinchbeck explained.

The Chinese Room, who released successful PC indie game Dear Esther earlier this year, is also developing a sequel to Amnesia called Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs which is slated to release next year.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is due to release sometime in 2013.
