Resistance: Burning Skies survival mode detailed

Sony has revealed what the new Survival multiplayer mode in upcoming Vita shooter Resistance: Burning Skies will have to offer.

According to a post on the official PS Blog, this'll be the third multiplayer mode of the game, alongside Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.

Sony explained that the mode will see players divided into two groups - humans and Chimera - which will start with six and two squad members respectively. The mode's method of balancing the game is unique as whenever a human is killed he'll be transformed into a Chimera thus changing the course of the game slowly. The last surviving human will be the winner of the round.

Product manager Phil Lynch explained it further.

"We really wanted to offer something that was unique to Resistance, keeping with the franchise's theme around humanity's struggle to survive against overwhelming odds.

"We wanted the game to start relatively simple for the humans and then become increasingly harder over time, much like the way the Chimera invaded Asia, then Europe and then America in a flood.

"Previous Resistance games have had modes similar to this, but Survival is our own special twist to create a new mode that focuses on the balance of power changes."

A new pre-order incentive for Burning Skies has also been announced today. All pre-orders will receive a free level 5 multiplayer upgrade and will automatically start on level 5 in the game. They'll also receive a free Vita lock screen theme and three extra character avatars.

Resistance: Burning Skies will be available from May 30.
