Secret War back online following unexpected demand

Funcom and Facebook were caught off guard by the popularity of The Secret World's social tie-in, which offers beta entry as a reward for participation.

Although it's back now, The Secret War went offline earlier today while Funcom fiddled with in order to meet demand.

"Due to significantly higher levels of recruitment and sharing than were originally expected, we have been asked by Facebook to make some adjustments and improvements," the site advised.

The Secret war has players ally with one of the MMORPG's three factions, sharing assets and recruiting friends to battle over territory around the world. Participation nets exclusive in-game items and makes the player eligible for beta access.

The Illuminati seem to be the most popular faction so far; prior to the game's downtime, the US-based faction had conquered around three-quarters of the globe. Progress seems to have been rest in the interim, which is good news for the VG247 Templar crew.

The Secret World is due in June.
