The Last Express to launch on iPad this year

Cult favourite adventure The Last Express is coming to a swanky tablet near you.

Jordan Mechner's 1997 classic, already available via Good Old Games and direct download, is heading to iPad thanks to port specialist DotEmu, which also backed the downloadable release.

Mechner, who is probably best known as the creator of Prince of Persia, announced the port on his blog, assuring fans the tablet release will include all 20 hours of the full, original game as well as "a few additional enhancements to make it more iOS-friendly".

No release date has been set but fans are encouraged to follow the game's Facebook page for more details as they arise.

What sets The Last Express apart from the rest of the adventure genre is its branching storyline; the massive script allows for multiple points of differentiation as the player interacts with 40 NPCs, all in something close to real-time. It flopped on release but is well worth checking out.
