Online retail giant Amazon is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its App Store service with some special deals.
“Customers have used the Amazon Appstore to test drive and buy millions of apps and games for their Kindle Fire and other Android devices in the first year alone,” Appstore director Aaron Rubenson said in a statement.
For comparison purposes, Apple’s App Store, which is the only legitimate source of software for iOS as opposed to Android’s more open approach, recently passed 25 billion downloads.
Elsewhere, Amazon went into hard figures; the number of apps available on the store had grown from 4,000 to over 31,000 in the past year, and the total value of the service’s free app of the day has reached over $1,000. Games remain the most popular category on the store, as evidenced by the charts below.
