SimCity to have cloud saves, possible cross-platform

A few more snippets on the newly-confirmed SimCity have slipped out of GDC 2012.

According to Joystiq, SimCity will use cloud saves. Progress will be continually pulled to the cloud in the background as you build, which is bad news for those with quick save reliance, but good for Maxis' vision of massively connected cities affecting each other in real time.

While only PC support has been announced, Maxis said the game has been built to support a "play anywhere" philosophy, and mentioned browser-based play.

Gamasutra reports Maxis gave a detailed explanation of its new Glassbox engine, in which it mentioned the tech has been devised with an eye for supporting all future games.

Although Maxis has nothing to announce at present, it said Glassbox could handle titles like SimTower and SimCopter.

SimCity was announced yesterday at an external GDC event focused on games as social change agents.
