Planetside 2 won't be region-locked

Proving that nerdrage has its uses, Sony Online Entertainment boss John Smedley has confirmed the company is working on ways to allow Planetside 2 players to freely choose which server they play on.

"We've come up with a plan to allow ALL players to play on any servers they want. More details to follow," Smedley tweeted.

Concerns that US and European communities would be segregated on regional servers arose form news of a deal with ProSiebenSat.1 and Alaplaya, which would see those companies managing eight of SOE's MMOs.

SOE's Linda Carlson had promised players SOE would look for solutions to keep the communities together, but the publisher is yet to address other concerns over the deal, including accusations of account deletion and personal detail sharing.

Planetside 2, a shooter MMO, is expected this year.
