Rumour: HTC to introduce first non-Sony PlayStation Certified Android handsets

HTC will be one of the first companies outside Sony to provide Android-powered handsets that are PlayStation Certified, Pocket-Lint is reporting this morning.

The move, which the site predicts could happen as early as Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month, will mean upcoming phones from the company will be able to play PlayStation classics like Crash Bandicoot and access to a native PlayStation Store.

HTC has refused to verify the story, saying it doesn't "comment on rumors or speculation," but the firm is expected to be certified by second-half 2012.

So far, only Sony Ericsson handsets like the Xperia series have had access to the Certified program, which was announced last year in Japan at the unveil of PlayStation Vita as a way to introduce classics across Android devices like phones and tablets.
