Capcom "not focusing on any previous" titles for RE6's inspiration

Capcom has said the inspiration for Resident Evil 6 doesn't come from any specific previous game.

The horror's debut trailer showed play styles reminiscent of both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. RE6's main playable characters include RE4 and RE5 protagonists Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has told IGN that the team hasn't been inspired by one single previous game.

"We have a ton of respect for the past RE games. The ways in which they were each able to provide unique experiences is incredibly important," he said.

"With RE6 we hope to create an even greater game than the previous entries in the series. That being said, we are not focusing on any previous title in particular.

"What we can say though, is that we do consider the things we have learned from previous RE games to be really beneficial as we make this new title."

Hirabayashi said Leon and Chris are leads because of the "focus on the story," adding there were still "a lot of characters still to be announced, so we hope everyone will look forward to finding out about them and how they fit into the story."

Resident Evil 6 launches on November 20 worldwide for PS3 and 360.
