Rumour: Wii U to get own app store

Following a report earlier that suggested an eReader sub-service would be introduced for Wii U, The Daily has said Nintendo is planning to introduce a "full blown" app store for the machine.

The new store will "go far beyond" what is possible on DSi Shop or Wii Shop Channel, according to the publication, adding it'll contain a "wider variety" of apps.

One example given by The Daily is baseball and MLB.TV, which could run independently on Wii U's tablet controller.

It's unclear if the store, which is currently unnamed, will use a points system - like DSi Shop or Wii Shop Channel - or pay-to-play, as with Apple.

Wii U is set to launch anytime between June and December 2012. The console will appear at CES next week.
