Mass Effect 3 squad roster reveal would "spoil" the story

BioWare won't reveal which of your favourites will be party members in Mass Effect 3.

"People wanna know, 'show me my permanent roster of squad members, show me my roster of love interests,'" producer Casey Hudson said in the latest episode of BioWare Pulse.

"But of course, that is so much a part of telling the story.

"That's why we don't wanna say, 'yep, here's all the characters that are permanent squad members,' because first of all, it doesn't make sense in a war story. It's not true to the game.

"Some characters you might get, some character might die, and the discovery of how that's all gonna work is so much a part of the story that we don't wanna spoil it."

Begged for information on whether certain characters would return, Hudson reassured fans but wouldn't give specifics.

"A lot of people love different characters and wanna see them come back. We make the story of Mass Effect 3 out of these different story lines that come together," he said.

"All these different characters will be back in the story. But they'll be there, doing their own thing, appropriate to what that character's doing and appropriate to what the story of Mass Effect 3 will be."

So what is this story which is so bloody precious I am not allowed to know whether Liara is available for romancin'?

"It's a war story. It's a little different from the story structure in Mass Effect 2, which was kind of a collection story - you're building a dirty dozen. Maybe it's a little more similar to the structure of Mass Effect 1, where it really is a little bit of a discovery story, a little bit of a chase story, a little bit of exploration," Husdson said.

"In Mass Effect 3 though, it's all in the context of a larger galactic war."

Mass Effect 3 is due in March 2012 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. See the full episode below.
