Sonic Generations to include unlockable Sonic 1

The original 16-bit era Sonic The Hedgehog will be playable in the upcoming Sonic Generations.

Takashi Iizuka announced the inclusion at Paris Games Week, as reported by Destructoid.

Beyond saying the game would be unlockable, Iizuka gave no more details.

Sonic the Hedgehog was the killer app of the Mega Drive, also called the Genesis. The game's speed and fluidity was a marked departure from the floaty ponderousness of Mario and its ilk, and the blud hedgehog rapidly became the face of Sega.

Sonic Generations is expected on 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The portable version is expected at the end of November, while the core versions are due in the first week of the month.

Thanks, Joystiq.
