GameStop launches eStore-only presence in mainland UK

GameStop has made its big move to the UK, closing the small number of stores the chain has for mainland UK, but has instead moved to an online-only presence.

GameStop.co.uk will be mainly run by staff from GameStop Ireland in Dublin. The main focus, for the UK arm, is e-commerce.

"You can say the two events are tied together a little bit," EVP of GameStop International, Mike Mauler told MCV.

"From a bricks and mortar perspective the UK is saturated more than any other market we have done business in. We can offer a lot more value through our ecommerce and digital offering.

"Whether it is via Championship Manager by Jolt on Facebook, casual games on Kongregate, or physical games sold through GameStop.co.uk, we can add a lot more to the market, and introduce more profitability than having two random standalone stores in the UK."

The move should pretty much unaffect the stores found in Northern Ireland, considering they would be under the GameStop Ireland label.

Already, GameStop UK has some decent offers going so far: Transformers: Dark of the Moon is under £25, Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D under £30, SSFIV 3D for £12 and the chance to pre-order the Wi-Fi version of Vita for under £210.
