Aliens Colonial Marines to answer fans' questions

Gearbox is answering long-standing questions pertaining to the Aliens canon.

“You’ll explore the cargo bay and you’ll see the milky trail from Bishop’s ripped-in-half body, and his legs,” Randy Pitchford told OXM in a extract reproduced online to correct a publishing error.

"The dropship that Bishop piloted, that Ripley, Hicks and Newt all escaped on, you’ll ride that. That’s still there in the hangar.”

While revisiting familiar locations, players will finally find answers to pressing questions. Working within the established Aliens canon has led Gearbox to explore existing inconsistencies.

"What’s interesting is it’s fiction, and sometimes the fiction actually has some mutually exclusive ‘facts,'" the Gearbox CEO said.

"We’ve identified some of those and taken them to [20th Century Fox] and been like 'can we come up with something that makes sense?'

"So what we think is mutually exclusive actually makes perfect sense if you only had this bit of information. And we’ve solved some of those problems, those are the fun ones."

The script for Aliens Colonial Marines has been penned by the team behind the successful and acclaimed Battlestar Galactica TV show, in an attempt to capture the memorable feel of the film's dialogue. But the story is Gearbox's own, and will tie up some lose ends.

"Like, what happened to Burke? What happened to Hudson? They’re there, somewhere. They’re all fun play spaces that you get to visit after these events unfolded," Pitchford explained.

Aliens Colonial Marines is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in northern spring 2012, with a Wii U version undated.
