Sony's PSVita to sponsor Games Media Awards as Gold Partner

Sony has announced its sponsorship of this year's Games Media Awards as a Gold Partner with PSVita.

Sony will use the event to promote its new handheld to the UK's specialist press, which according to MCV, will play an "integral role in Sony's launch plans for PSVita this autumn."

"PlayStation is delighted to be back on board with the Games Media Awards," said SCE's head of UK PR David Wilson. "The specialist press are our bread and butter and it's only right that they get the recognition they deserve. The GMAs continue to increase in significance, and 2011 is shaping up to be no less significant for PlayStation with Resistance 3, Uncharted 3 and of course PlayStation Vita on the horizon."

The firm joins other GMA sponsors Activision, Rising Star and Namco Bandai.

Activision is another Gold Partner, while Namco is sponsoring the after party and Rising Star is supporting the award category, Rising Star, fittingly enough.

Grainger Games has also signed up as the headline sponsor of the event, and other partners include: Codemasters, EA, Gamescom, Konami, Microsoft, NCsoft, Nintendo 3DS, and Ubisoft.

The GMAs take place on Wednesday, October 26 at the Vinopolis venue near Borough Market and Greg Davies, star of The Inbetweeners, will be the host for the evening.

Voting is still open, and you can email your nominees through the link.
