Garriott to keynote GDC Europe

ThinkServices has announced this morning that Lord British himself, Richard Garriott, will be the keynote speaker at GDC Europe in August.

Garriott, who created the Ultima series and Tabula Rasa in his time with NCSoft, will give a talk known as "The Three Eras of Gaming and Why This One is a Game Changer."

It'll see the now co-founder of social games company Portalarium give "special insight into the current era of social and casual games, and will discuss whether or not traditional development can and should make that transition to this new mode of interactive entertainment."

"There are few developers with Richard Garriott's history, pedigree and vantage point, having been a defining force in the realm of traditional hardcore games, birthing the RPG and MMORPG genres, to now helping lead the way within the world of social games, said GDCE event director Frank Sliwka.

GDC Europe takes place between August 15-17 in Cologne alongside gamescom.
