UK developers "the bedrock of our business," says Sega

Sega has said that its two UK-based internal developers are part of the "bedrock" of the UK games development industry.

VP of production at Sega Europe Gary Dunn told GI.biz that both Sports Interactive and The Creative Assembly, who announced last week it was developing a new entry into the Alien IP for consoles, were consistently outperforming financial targets by creating top titles, such as Football Manager and Total War.

"Our UK internal studios are probably the bedrock of our business," said Dunn.

"For the second year both Sports Interactive and Creative Assembly are outperforming their business plans from a profitability perspective. These guys are on top of the game, it's a real testimony to the games they make."

Sega West president Mike Hayes added that Creative Assembly was seen as the company's crown jewel, although added it was still "very proud" of what it had accomplished with CA and SI.

"It's interesting: Creative Assembly are seen as the jewel in the crown of SEGA. That's an interesting thing, I don't think that would have been a thought about that fifteen years ago - but probably Creative Assembly has the consistent highest quality in terms of gaming for any studio, so SEGA's very proud of both," he said.
