Report: EA planning to release BF3 close to next CoD title

A retail source has told MCV Battlefield 3 and the next Call of Duty title will be releasing "within days" of each other, and the next CoD's November arrival will be made official by May 23.

Rival EA doesn't want Activision grabbing headlines with Call of Duty any longer, and is trying to release BF3 as close to "Modern Warfare 3" as possible, the retail mole told MCV.

Although, a day-and-date clash can't be ruled out, a BF3 release a few day before the new CoD is the most likely scenario, according to the source.

EA refused to offer comment to MCV, however such aggressive play is bound to put Activision under pressure as EA tries to topple Call of Duty from being the undisputed FPS king with Battlefield 3.

The firm also seems quite prepared to take Activision's Juggernaut head-on, offered the source.

“EA hasn’t been shy with Battlefield 3. It’s well known it will tackle CoD head-on,” the retail source said. “We’re ready for them to arrive within days of each other.”

Activision's next Call of Duty title is rumoured to be Modern Warfare 3 - with everything from sketchy-looking boxart to a logo doing the rounds.

Next month's issue of OPM is rumoured to be carrying a cover story on the game.

Expect Activision to launch an offensive of its own soon, as a Kotaku report suggests that Modern Warfare 3 will feature a “much larger epic scale” and "destructible environment" with a possible World War III-like setting.
