Sony to launch Xperia Play in UK on March 31

Sony Ericsson has said it will launch its Xperia Play in the UK at the end of the month.

Speaking with MCV, the firm confirmed it will come with six games: Crash Bandicoot, FIFA 10, Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, Star Battalion, Tetris, and The Sims 3 with 50 more games available through PlayStation Suite.

Sony said that all mobile carriers and retailers will have the phone, and may be sold through gaming retailers as well.

“We are currently still in commercial conversation, but I’d be surprised if we didn’t see Xperia Play appear in other channels,” Sony Ericsson's marketing director David Hilton said. “All the mobile operators and retailers are selling it. It is rare these days to get a product that is sold everywhere, but this is one of those. This will be the biggest marketing campaign we have had in the UK.”

As for any future gaming devices being considered after the release of the Xperia, Hilton said: “We will see how this one goes. But there is the potential for this to grow.”
