Serious Sam developer Croteam has thrown its franchise open to indie developers, launching the Serious Sam Indie Series of unique remakes and bringing new styles of play to the most serious shooter’s universe.

Joystiq reports Be-Rad Entertainment has put together an auto-run title called Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack!, and Explosionade developer Mommy’s Best will release a side-scrolling shooter called Serious Sam: Double-D.

Meanwhile Vlambeer – best known for Super Crate Box – has churned out a turn-based RPC called Serious Sam: The Random Encounter.

All three games will be playable at PAX East, and will release over the coming months.
