Battlefield Play4Free open beta kicks off on April 4

EA's confirmed that the open beta for Battlefield Play4Free will kick off on April 4.

Easy Studios boss Ben Cousens said at EA's GDC showcase last night that 600,000 people had signed up for the game's closed beta since it was first announced back in November of last year.

While the open beta kicks off, those who've played either Bad Company 1 or 2 or Battlefield 1943 and sign in with their EA ID will get early access from March 31.

Twitter and Facebook followers will also get early access on April 2, before it goes open for all on April 4.

Easy added it was bringing the best elements of the Battlefield series into Play4Free, saying it's a service, not a product.

It also confirmed that modes and maps will be released for the game after it releases. As well as that, clan and server browser support are all expected before summer.
