Notch: Mojang needs to take better care of modders

20110113million

Speaking to Gamasutra, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson said his independent company needs to provide better support for modders.

"There's a strong modding community for Minecraft already that we need to take care of better," he said, commenting that mods have done "great things" for other games.

In fact, improved technical support for mods is one of the first items on the list for upcoming Minecraft development.

"High up on priority is a proper modding API that lets people who make mods plug into the game in a way that doesn't break when we update the game," he explained.

Minecraft has sold over a million copies, a vast proportion of them before reaching beta status. Its pheneomenal rise to dominance of the PC indie scene is soon to be the subject of a documentary.
