Orb Blu-Ray software coming to PS3

sony3

Orb Networks is to bring its Blu-ray software to PlayStation 3, essentially turning Sony's system into an Internet TV portal.

Orb, which will also be made available on internet-connected Blu-ray players, will allow users to access movies and TV via services like Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Video on Demand.

“The combined cost of a Blu-ray player and Orb BR software is less expensive than most of the other Internet TV solutions, like Boxee and Google TV, while providing more capabilities," said Joe Costello, CEO of Orb Networks.

"With more than 8 million connected Blu-ray players and 40 million PS3 players already in homes, the market opportunity for Orb BR is huge.”

The cost of the software comes in at $19.99. To use Orb, users will have to download the free Orb Caster software and insert the provided disc in to their Blu-ray player or PS3.

Orb BR supports both 720p and 1080p. It'll be released in February this year.

Thanks, PSU.
