David Braben has reiterated Kinectimals does not include any of Lionhead’s Milo & Kate tech.

Speaking with VG247 during Kinect’s launch party in the UK this evening, when asked about the tech, Braben told freelancer Stace Harman “none at all”.

Back in July, Braben tried to kill rumors swirling about that Frontier Games was using Lionhead’s tech for its adorable pet simulator, stating it had “been in development” since before Milo was revealed to the public.

“It is built using Frontier’s own technology shared with other Frontier games in development, and ideas evolved from earlier games like Dog’s Life,” he said. “There has not been any involvement in the technology or design by Lionhead. Milo & Kate is a completely separate (and intriguing) development from Lionhead.”

So, that’s that then. No Milo tech in Kinectimals. Glad that’s put to bed.

On the launch of Kinect, though, Braben was more forthcoming when asked questions on the device, stating it was an inclusive bit of tech and not just for the causal or the core.

“I think the point of tonight’s event was to reach out to more people, and it is inclusive – it doesn’t mean it’s just for kids, but adults as well,” he told Stace. “From a dashboard point of view, to a playing with friends point of view… overall, Kinect is pretty important thing for games generally.

“It appeals to wider audience, but it’s also very encompassing. If you think about what it’s doing for gaming, it seems to be changing the path. It’s bringing in new things, and you have to think what this means for the future, and not just for games but for what we can be done with it in the future.”

Kinect launched in the US last week, and hits UK stores at midnight.
