L+E Pictures, owned by Eric Eisner, has optioned the rights to a film based on Eido's Just Cause franchise.

According to a report over on Variety, Eisner - the son of ex-Disney head Michael Eisner - has pegged Adrian Askarieh as the producer.

Askarieh was the producer of the Hitman film, and is currently producing Hitman 2 (2012) and Kane & Lynch (2011), both of which are in the pre-production phase of development.

Michael Ross, a scriptwriter for shorts, television shows, and the horror film Turistas, will pen the script and was originally tied as the writer before the rights were purchased by Eisner's studio. Ross is also currently penned to write a script for the political thriller Cartagena, which reportedly has Clive Owen attached to it, and has scripted remakes of Jar City and Near Dark.

The Just Cause film will tell the story of Rico Rodriguez, a black ops agent who carries out deadly missions for the U.S. government, just like the game which sold over 1 million units since its release in 2006.

Just Cause 2 was released in March, and according to Square Enix sales of the title doubled those of the original. Player stats for the game were released over the weekend.
