Sonly looking into reports of PS3 firmware 3.50 disabling legit third-party USB adapters

ps311

According to some PS3 users on the PlayStation forums, certain third-party controllers no longer work on their PS3 since the 3.50 update was applied.

The firmware update, which was released on Tuesday, not only allwed 3D Blu-ray movies to be played on PS3, but according to users, after applying the patch certain USB devices have stopped working.

While some of the devices were not legitimate, apparently, some were. Users are reporting that certain MadCatz controllers, and even some licensed Guitar Hero controllers, are no longer functioning. Same with PS2 to Ps3 controller converters.

According to a consumer alert posted by Sony on September 21, the same day the newest firmware update went live: "SCEA does not support continued functionality of counterfeit or unlicensed controllers in system software updates and these devices may cease to function in the future because of system software updates.

"SCE and its affiliated companies disclaim all liability for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party through the use of counterfeit or unlicensed products."

Sony has told VG247 it's "looking into it" and will get back with us.

Thanks, Mike.
