Capcom announces "DMC" for PS3 and 360 - first shots and HD trailer

Capcom's just announced a new Devil May Cry known as "DMC" at its TGS event, to be developed by Enslaved and Heavenly Sword studio Ninja Theory.

A trailer of the title was shown, featuring a younger version of series protagonist Dante in what appeared to an asylum. He then spins and fire dual pistols towards an enemy.

A robot sphere is said to be looking at him, asking the question "What is your name?", before replying "My name is Dante".

Capcom dev boss Keiji Inafune said it was too soon to talk about release dates for the game, but the publisher's confirmed in a press release it'll be release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

According to Ninja Theory head Tameen Antoniades, the original DMC games were a huge inspiration for him, and the new title "pulls inspiration from today's rebellious youth" (per D'toid). The team even researched current fashion trends, street art, popular music and today's attitudes to apply some "freshness to the series".

Antoniades added that the team still wanted to keep what made the DMC a classic series intact, though.

Capcom supervising director Hideaki Itsuno took the stage with Antoniades to support the changes, saying that they brought a "unique sense of cool" to the series, while Capcom brought the know-how and "DNA" of the series.

He said that these will combine to make the best Devil May Cry game they possibly can.

The game is promised to "redefine the franchise," according to Capcom.

DMC's story goes like this:

"Set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC will depict a duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred. Spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation, Dante bursts into this world intent on revenge at any cost."

Nailed like twin pistols

It rounds off speculation on the title that dates back to earlier this year, when it was rumoured Ninja Theory was developing Devil May Cry 5, according to Game Informer.

The rumour soon got a bit of weight when Capcom announced any new IPs in the future will be done in-house, with sequels from western studios. NT boss Tameem Antoniades was very coy about even debunking a such a rumour during a Namco Bandai pre-E3 event in Spain in May whilst promoting Enslaved.

"Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it," he told VG247 at the event.

Capcom's Keiji Inafune said the sequel will have a "western feel", all but confirming at the same time the game was in development.

Last night, the developer confirmed it was announcing its new game this week in Japan, while Capcom had previously said it would be announcing four new games.

A trademark filing by Capcom for "DMC" was discovered this morning.
