Ono: Street Fighter x Tekken not out for two years, no more big announcements until Captivate

Pumped for Street Fighter x Tekken? Of course you are. Release next year? Not a chance.

Producer on the Capcom side of things Yoshinori Ono has told Famitsu that the game won't be out for at least two years after its announcement, meaning a 2012 release is on the cards.

The only reason it was revealed during its very early development process - Ono said work began one or two months ago - was to do something for the fans, he said.

Formal talks on a project on this scale began a year ago, although there was discussions between Ono and Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada before that about doing something together.

As for when we can expect to hear any more major announcements for the game, you're in for a long wait: Captivate 2011 looks set to be where the bombs start dropping.

Ono also said that no information will be passed on to each team on the two development teams for each game. For example, the Namco team won't be passing info on Tekken x Street Fighter, and vice versa with Capcom and Street Fighter x Tekken.

"We'd like to challenge one-another in all areas, including sales, and get fans of both series excited," he said.

The mashup was announced last night at ComicCon for PS3 and 360. Get the skinny here.
