Rock Band sales decrease by seven percent

Viacom has announced that worldwide sales of Rock Band have decreased by seven percent during the quarter ending March 31, 2010.

Thomas Dooley, CFO of Viacom, who owns MTV Games and the game's developer Harmonix, said: "Worldwide ancillary revenues declined seven per cent, reflecting lower sales of Rock Band music videogames.

The news comes despite an improved Q4 from a bad Q3, as well as outsourcing instrument development to peripheral company MadCatz.

Despite that, Dooley says that he hopes that the series will be a "profit contributor sometime in the calendar year."

Harmonix had Green Day: Rock Band on the horizon for PS3, 360 and Wii with a release on June 8 worldwide. As well as the spin-off, it also has Rock Band 3 itself to contend with this fall, but there are no details on that at the moment.

Thanks, Edge.
