Derby inner ring road to be named Lara Croft Way

lara

Derby's public has voted to name a new ring road Lara Croft Way, in honour of the town's most famous pretend woman.

The £36.2 million road will take Lara's name after 89% of the 27,000 people that voted decided it was for the best.

Rule number one: don't let the public decide anything.

Lara Croft was created by local firm Core Design.

Councillor Lucy Care, told the BBC: "The vote really captured the imagination of people from across the world and, despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89% for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore.

"She was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city."

What's left of Core is now Rebellion Derby, although it doesn't look as though it's going to have a happy ending.
